Ahhh... FINALLY! Tailgate season starts TODAY!
September has arrived and with it comes the greatest season to be a fan... of ANYTHING! The Three Broads are fanatical about their passions! We are fans... the greatest kind of fans... bleeding our school colors, sporting our favorite fan gear, and of course meeting at the event to really show our spirit! Is there anything better than standing shoulder-to-shoulder with people who understand the depth of your love? WAIT... There is something better... Standing shoulder-to-shoulder, TAILGATING with all your might with the people who understand the depth of your love!
In order to celebrate this thing we love... TAILGATING... we have decided to share with you our favorite tailgating recipes. Enjoy these delightful treats, but remember to get out there and share the love of Food...Fun...Friendship at your next Fan event!
Shannon's Recipe:
I think we have established that cooking is not my greatest strength, but I will say that I am an excellent tailgater! I love getting to the game early, listening to the coaches fire-up the players, and most of all... EATING! For this week's recipe, I share a treat that never fails to inspire... Skinny Taco Soup! (I never tell my family that it is the skinny version!) At 260 calories a cup, you just cannot go wrong, and even better, you can have your cheesecake bar and not even need to walk 5000 more steps!

Look at those happy faces... Skinny Taco Soup is an easy way to make all the fans at your tailgate feel satisfied and ready for the stress... I mean excitement... of the game! ENJOY!
Go IRISH! Go LITTLE GIANTS! GO INDIANS! (Golf, Football, Spirit of TL) GO HOOSIERS!
GO TAILGATING!
Hilary's Recipe:
At our house we eat, sleep, breathe, and eat (again) sports. Football, golf, basketball, baseball you name it, we watch it. However, like Shannon we are trying to stick to our guns and eat lighter. So I went on a mission to find tailgating food that still tastes like you are being really bad but melts in your mouth with every bite.
This week I made homemade Chile con Queso from Eatingwell.com. I am a dip connoisseur so I was skeptical about this being so low in calories (84 calories per 1/4 cup). It turns out this dip is awesome. The best part is that it actually tastes homemade instead of processed like the chile con queso I used to eat. It was also pretty easy and very little mess. It would certainly keep well in a Crock-Pot at your next tailgate.
Enjoy! Go Cubs! Go Bears! Go Boilermakers!

Addie's Recipe:
Well after reading Shannon's inspiring words I forgot myself for one quick moment and thought I actually liked sports...whew! Back to me...I am not a sports fan...I don't get the stress or fuss. I have actually tried to paint my nails at a basketball game...you would have thought I was stripping by my husband's reaction. I brought my knitting to one of my nephew's middle school games and all the players asked me when their sweaters would be finished. I tried to bring a book to a football game and my husband threatened to sit somewhere else. I never get the language..who cares if I call it intermission...I'd rather be somewhere that has an intermission.
I don't get why I have to pay attention...everyone in the stands is recapping the game every 5 seconds! If you miss something, they will tell you about it FOREVER...in fact, they (the sports people, as I refer to them in my mind) will still be talking about at the next sporting event.
Have I painted a clear enough picture?!?!? I prefer to read at home....with a glass of wine and a comfy couch.
But I do love to go out and I LOVE to eat! So when I am invited to someone's home to watch one of these sports spectacles, I like to bring something healthy (and vegetarian), that I know I can enjoy!
I made 2 dips this week...and they were both tasted and approved by my sports-loving husband! (I promise he knew I didn't like sports before our we said I do!)

No real recipe needed for the first one...1 1/2 cups greek yogurt and a packet of the Hidden Valley Ranch Greek Yogurt Dips. Serve with veggies. YUM!
The second recipe is for Spicy Chipotle White Bean Dip...Super yummy! I served with veggies because we are trying to be healthy. This took less than 10 minutes to make...and you can control the amount of heat.

What do you bring to your tailgate parties?
